What is Turn IT Green?
It short terms, Turn IT Green is an initiative created by InnoVent commited to extend the useful life of corporate devices to help mitigate the environmental impact of technology.
Extending lifespan without sweating assets
Corporate devices typically last between 3 to 4 years before they start encountering issues or malfunctioning parts (It’s not a coincidence that manufacturers warranties cover the first 3 years of a device).
While some businesses may extend this lifespan slightly through asset sweating, this strategy often involves hidden sacrifices such as:
- Increased Repair costs
- Technology obsolescence
- Staying behind on innovation
- Challenges in end-of-life disposal.
These are just a few of the overlooked consequences associated with pushing devices to their operational limits.
So how does Turn IT Green extends the useful life without sweating the asset?
Through these 3 key pillars:
- Community: Turn IT Green has created a collaborative community that involves businesses, charities and end-users that all benefit from the different stages of a device’s useful life.
- High-Quality Refurbishement: InnoVent employs a Grade A Refurbishment process, upgrading devices, replacing faulty parts, and providing a cosmetic refresh that includes revinyling and reprinted keyboards, resulting in devices that are left to as good as new condition.
- Timing: Strategic timing is crucial to prevent asset sweat. A regular IT Refresh every three years not only aligns businesses with the lastest technology but also allows for optimal refurbishement, enchancing the device’s longevity.
The Turn IT Green Lifecycle
The lifecycle begins with a Corporate User that will benefit from using the first 3 years of a brand new device. After this period, the device returns to InnoVent to start its refurbishement process that will leave it as good as new and ready for the next stage.
The journey continues with a Second Corporate User, or Charity or School, that will benefit from the following 3 years of a refurbished device, that its fully supported by InnoVent’s 2nd Life IT warranty.
Upon completing the second cycle, the device returns for a light refurbishment, becoming available for end-users through InnoVent’s e-commerce channels. These products boast a 1-year warranty and a sustainable disposal option when they reach the end of their useful life.
Why is Turn IT Green sustainable?
On one hand, by extending the useful life of corporate devices, Turn IT Green significantly reduces e-waste. Devices that would typically end up in landfills after four years now last for 7+ years, with component parts reused or recycled, minimizing landfill impact.
On the other hand, as manufacturers report, the production of each brand new device generates in average around 400 kg of CO2. By encouraging businesses, charities, and schools to opt for refurbished devices instead of brand new ones, Turn IT Green contributes to reducing CO2 emissions associated with manufacturing.
When scaled up to a business's typical usage of 1000 devices, this translates to substantial environmental benefits, equivalent to offsetting the carbon footprint of 10 flights from London to New York, for example.
The journey starts with you
In 2024, if you are refreshing your IT equipment, consider joining the Turn IT Green initiative. Whether you opt for brand new or refurbished equipment, you stand to gain significant cost savings, benefit from regular IT refreshes, and align with sustainable practices to fulfill your business's ESG commitments.
