This is based on recent research carried out in South Africa. Thousands of older computers have been carefully monitored throughout their lives. Detailed records have been kept on their performance and reliability. This research has been done across all the brands and all operating systems as well.

The results are surprising. It turns out that the failure rate of refurbished or second-hand computers is around 1% but the failure rate of brand new computers can be as high as 5%.

Are refurbished laptops a good buy or a complete waste of money? The answer might surprise you. It certainly surprised us.

So it comes as a bit of a shock to learn that a second-hand laptop can actually be more reliable than a new one. But it makes perfect sense. Not least, when you consider the fact that a used computer will have had all the bugs ironed out. All those factory faults will have been resolved and anything that wasn’t up to spec will have been returned to the factory.

As a result, any laptop that’s survived its first year is probably going to last for a very long time. The statistics are quite surprising.

Up to 5% of all new computers will either arrive with a fault or develop one in the first year. But on average, only 1% of second-hand laptops will have a problem in the same time period. So that’s why we at Innovent are prepared to guarantee every single one of our products.
